According to the news this morning, the government have raised the age limit for (young people) start up incentive(s), i.e. £2500 per individual, as we understand it.
It represents a modest salary which will last you about three, perhaps four months.
We agree wholehearterly that these incentives are necessary to encourage good ideas and new business ventures. Modest reservations are in the back of my mind, but I have have no wish to discourage the 3000 young people who have applied so far.
From a practicle point of view
When I started up my bookkeeping business in 1993/5 (I was 38 years old), I was on a huge learning curve, but I had already spend nearly 20 years in the finance sector. I chose bookkeeping as my profession, even though a chartered accountant is senior in terms of responsibility and training.
OK, let me be completely honest. I am a slow but thorough learner and going back to college did not appeal to me...then or now!!
My strong interest has always been the development of desk top and mobile computing devices and its supporting software for smaller businesses.
In the next article(s), I will reveal the interesting and sometimes coloured paths I travelled to the present day...
